"Serving those who are serving us."

This site is dedicated to the brave men and women protecting and defending our country and the people who support them.

We are "The Troop Group". We are a composite of representatives from American Legion Auxiliary Hammond-Schmit Unit 55 in Hortonville, WI; Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church Troop Support Ministry Team from Greenville, WI; and Appleton Military Support Group in Appleton, WI. Our mission is to insure as many service members as possible in harm's way have as much support as we can provide them as often as they need it to the best of our ability.

News Flashes!!

Thank  You  Children  and  Staff  at Shepherd of  the  Hills  Lutheran  Church V.B.S.

The children and staff at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church Vacation Bible School collected food and personal care for our troops again this summer. The children collected over 2,000 items during the week long event. Their Friday craft project was making nice cards for our troops. We are looking forward to sending the cards in the boxes of treats and personal care we pack in the next few weeks. Again, thank you children.

Our Support List is Growing Rapidly

We are expecting to regularly support over two dozen of the troops  from the 32nd Infantry Brigade now in Iraq, several other young men from the area, and and young men from across the United States in other units in both Iraq and Afghanistan. With 3,500 troops gone, this is the largest deployment Wisconsin has seen since WWII. With the hard economic times we are all enduring, we are very concerned we will not be able to support all the troops who need us. We urgently need your help. If everyone bought and donated one item on the list below each time they went in a grocery or discount store, we would have more than ample supplies to send all the people on our list. With the help of citizens, groups, and businesses everywhere we can support many of the young men and women now in Iraq and Afghanistan. We hope to collect the needed items and money for postage from now until we start our school supply drive in July and our Christmas drive in September.

Here is our urgent needs list:

  • Foil tuna pouches - $1.67 / pouch
  • Granola bars - $2.50 / box
  • Sm. packs PB or cheese & crackers - $2.50 / 6 pack
  • Sm. Packs nuts, raisins, or dried fruit - $2.25 / 6 pack
  • Coffee singles - $3.79 / box of 19
  • Single-serve drink mix packets - $3 / box
  • Sm. shampoo - $1
  • Sm. foot powder - $4
  • Pain reliever - $1
  • Lip balm - $1
  • Sm. men's deoderant - $1
  • Tube shave gel - $1

School Supply Season is Coming!

School supply season will soon be upon us. As you shop for school supplies, please remember our troops trying to help the children in Iraq and Afghanistan. Giving the children school supplies helps both the children and our troops. We will be looking for a very short, very simple list of school supplies this summer.

Here is our wish list:

  • Simple black or blue pens
  • #2 Pencils
  • Pink or green erasers
  • Simple pencil sharpeners
  • 70 Count spirals
  • These are desperately poor children who only wish for simple school supplies so they can learn basic reading and math skills. Taliban rules say the teachers must stop teaching or be executed. Let's help the brave teachers who are willing to risk their lives to see the children educated. Let's all fight the Taliban with education.

Christmas is Right Around the Corner!

We will officially be starting our Christmas efforts September 1st.  We are hoping to have 15,000 new Christmas cards in the mail to our troops by mid-November. Remember, we send new cards to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan early so they will have cards to send home to loved ones.  If you have new cards you no longer need or would like to make cards for our troops to send home to loved ones, please leave your donations in any of the many area drop sites. We start mailing Christmas cards October 15th. We will also be mailing small unbreakable Christmas ornaments, tree garland, or battery powered tree lights. Music is an important part of the Christmas season. We welcome new or gently used Christmas music CD's. Our hope is to have several CD's to send to each group of soldiers or marines on our list.

Church Services:

We send 20 - 25 church services on CD every week to service personnel in remote areas of the world often not served regularly by a chaplain. Donations of non-rewriteable CD's and the thin plastic CD cases are always welcome.
